3 Things to Do Before You Launch Your Website (So the Right People Can Find You)

Here are three important things to check so your website can actually be found by the right people.

1. Add Your Service Location to Your Homepage

Your location needs to be on your website because it provides search engines and AI with an ANCHOR POINT for your business. Even if you do your work online, it still matters. Otherwise, you're just one little website out here in the online space, among all the other websites doing the same thing as you, and you won’t be found easily. Give the search engines an anchor point, and they will serve your website to the right people.

Notice my location is at the top of my website (above the fold), which means it’s the first part of my site you see. In my case, this is most important for search engines and AI to read, since much of my work is online. However, my retreats and workshops are in person in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, so the font is bigger on those pages.

2. Include Your Location in Your Page Descriptions

Go behind the scenes of your website and write a page description for every page. Include your location in that page description. You have 70-155 characters to do this. This is what shows up when your webpage shows up in search so: 1) your potential clients will read it 2) AI and search engines read it to serve you to the right people.

Don’t skip this step.

This is my page description. Notice: location is clear, what you get out of working with me is clear and the words are going to attract outdoor oriented, relaxed folks likely. Most important point here is that my location is clear.

3. Write Your Website SEO Description: What You Do, Who It’s For, and Where You Are

Make it easy for search engines and AI to “place” you. Answer those three questions in your website description. You have 65 characters to do so. Keep it straight up and simple.

This is my website description. What I do, who it’s for, and where I am. That’s it. This exercise will invite you to get really clear - but that’s the point, isn’t it? Clarity = more clients.

Why these 3 SEO Actions Matter (More Than You May Think)

This is how you make it easier for search engines and AI to serve your work to the right people. Think of them as data machines, so you need to put in the data, or they don’t see you.

Clarity (yes, I talk about it all the time) matters. When you take the extra time to do this, you are doing something that SO MANY business owners don’t know they should be doing, and that puts your website in a position to be found, which means you get found by the right people.

And then, you get to work. And your work matters, and this is the best thing ever (and why I do what I do over here). Let’s get you out there doing the work you are here to do!

Go get it!
